If you require a COVID-19 test, a private clinic or GP may charge you out-of-pocket costs. Please do not submit as a claim to CBHS International. It is NOT COVERED under your policy as it’s a free service from the Australian Government.
Instead, make your way to a public COVID-19 clinic where there is no cost. COVID-19 testing is available to everyone within Australia for free (even if you’re not a citizen or permanent resident). To find a free testing clinic near you, call the National Coronavirus Helpline on 1800 020 080. For translating and interpreting services call 131 450. There’s also state by state information at the bottom of this page.
We do NOT recommend private clinics for COVID-19 tests
If you have visited a clinic already and received a bill, you likely should not have been charged and can seek a refund for the pathology portion of the bill.
COVID-19 certificates for travel
Most public COVID-19 testing clinics do not provide certificates for travel. Be aware that if you require a COVID-19 test certificate for travel, this is categorised as ‘inoculations for travel’ and if there is a fee, it will not be covered by Medicare or CBHS International Health.
COVID-19 won’t affect your visa status
If you are unwell with cold or flu like symptoms, please protect yourself and those around you by getting a COVID-19 test as soon as possible. They are free of charge and the test results will not affect your visa status.
State by state information (Note: You must select a ‘no GP referral required’ site for there to be no charge for the test).
